🔔 WEEKLY · WEDNESDAY, NOV 4, 2026
Good morning. Last week ended with a highly unusual event (Renaissance Capital): an IPO that priced and then never traded. OPay (OPAY) priced at $19 (IPO Scoop), then called the deal off on Friday, Oct 30 (SEC filing). Meanwhile, no IPOs are scheduled to price this week (IPO Scoop).
In this issue: what happened with OPay, last week's two biotech debuts and a direct listing, this week's calendar, three fresh filings in the pipeline, and how October finished.
🌍 Deal of the week: OPay (OPAY) calls off its IPO

The pricing. OPay priced 16 million American depositary shares at $19, the low end of its $19 to $21 range, to raise $304 million at a market value of about $4.0 billion. Cornerstone investors had committed to nearly 90% of the offering (Renaissance Capital).
No first trade. The ADSs did not trade on Friday, Oct 30, the day they were expected to debut on the NYSE (Renaissance Capital).
The reason given. On Oct 30, OPay decided not to complete the IPO "following a recent regulatory inquiry relating to a jurisdiction immaterial to the Company's business operations." The company said it is confident the inquiry will be concluded satisfactorily in the near future (SEC filing).
Deal terminated. OPay and its underwriters mutually agreed to end the Oct 29 underwriting agreement, so the offering will not be completed and the ADSs will not start trading on the NYSE as scheduled. The filing became public on EDGAR on Nov 2 (SEC filing). IPO Scoop now lists the deal as withdrawn (IPO Scoop).
What comes next. OPay has not announced a new date. Renaissance Capital's reading is that a satisfactory end to the inquiry could let the offering be revived in the coming months (Renaissance Capital). That is an outside view, not a company plan.
New here? Pricing is not closing. When an IPO prices, the banks agree to buy the shares at the offering price and resell them to investors. The deal only closes when the shares are delivered and paid for, normally a day or two later. Ending the underwriting agreement before closing means no shares change hands and no trading begins.
Correction. Our Oct 28 issue described OPay's net income of about $49.9 million as a 12-month figure. OPay's filing shows that was its net income for the three months ended June 30, 2026 (SEC filing).
🚀 Last week's debuts
Company | IPO price | Raised | Close on Oct 30 vs IPO price |
|---|---|---|---|
Bambusa Therapeutics (BBTX) | $16, midpoint, upsized | $169M | Down 6.3% |
Aspen Neuroscience (ASPE) | $15, low end | $141M | Down 0.7% |
Both debuted on Nasdaq on Oct 30. Returns are from the IPO price (Renaissance Capital).
Bambusa Therapeutics (BBTX). A Boston biotech developing long-acting bispecific antibodies for inflammatory diseases. Its lead drug, BBT001, is in Phase 1 trials for atopic dermatitis and a Phase 2a trial in China for chronic hives. It priced at an $856 million market value (Renaissance Capital).
Aspen Neuroscience (ASPE). A San Diego biotech whose lead candidate, sasineprocel, is a one-time cell therapy for Parkinson's disease made from the patient's own skin cells. It priced at a $462 million market value (Renaissance Capital).
Georgia Banking Company (GBC). The Atlanta-area bank, with 10 full-service branches, completed a direct listing on Nasdaq and finished the week at $38.38, 27.9% above the $30 price of its last private funding round (Renaissance Capital).
New here? In a direct listing, existing shareholders sell shares straight onto the exchange. The company raises no new money, and there is no IPO price, so the usual comparison point is a recent private sale price.
SPAC corner. Blank-check company BHAV Acquisition II (BHAIU) raised $100 million, and three more SPACs filed: UCSB Acquisition ($60M), Redwoods Acquisition II ($75M) and Heroic Empire Acquisition ($100M) (Renaissance Capital). A SPAC is a listed cash shell that plans to buy a private company later.
📅 This week's calendar
No IPOs are scheduled to price this week (IPO Scoop). Renaissance Capital had one SPAC tentatively on this week's calendar, Football Manager SPAC (FBLLU) (Renaissance Capital), but IPO Scoop now lists it for the week of Nov 23 (IPO Scoop). Its latest filing offers 10 million units at $10, about $100 million, and says it will look for a football club in the middle tiers of European professional football (SEC filing). Treat its timing as unconfirmed.
Two larger companies on file could still launch despite the volatility, in Renaissance Capital's view: dental treatments supplier vVardis (VVVV) and spinal implant maker Centinel Spine (CNTL) (Renaissance Capital). Neither has set a date.

🦜 Polly's Take
OPay is a reminder that an IPO has two finish lines. Pricing tells you what buyers agreed to pay, but the deal is only done when shares are delivered and trading begins. Most weeks that gap is invisible. Last week it was the whole story. The two biotechs that did debut both closed their first day below their IPO prices. On the next deals, the useful things to watch are where they price against their ranges and whether trading starts on schedule.
